trigonella foenum-graecum

polyphenol stilbenes including Rhaponticin
diosgenin
  • Streptococcus mutants
  • Promotes the phosphorylation of protein kinase B (AKT) and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).
  • Improves Insulin Sensitivity and
  • Mitochondrial Function
  • Reduces lipid accumulation by suppressing the expression of adipocyte-specific proteins
  • Scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS).

AMPK is the principle energy sensing molecule of the cell. AMPK activation is essential to healthy kidney function. Fenugreek activates AMPK and promotes the beta-oxidation of glucose. This improves insulin sensitivity and lowers blood sugar levels.

Fenugreek also scavenges Reactive Oxygen Species which protects the mitochondria from being damaged by oxidized linoleic acids. When taken at a modest dose, fenugreek will reverse abnormal creatine levels caused by linoleic acid induced hyperglycemia. However, as is true with linoleic acid itself, it is possible to take too much. A diet consisting of 5% fenugreek (which is an astronomical amount) will cause kidney damage.
