Known for an early and influential investigation into allegations against Michael Jackson

Mary A. Fischer is an investigative journalist, specializing in stories related to the law.[1][2] In 1993 she spent months working on her investigation into rumors pop-singer Michael Jackson was a pedophile, published in Gentleman's Quarterly under the title Was Michael Jackson Framed. A Fox News story, published in 2003, when Jackson faced new allegations, noted that her story was no longer available on the GQ site, but it was published, in book form, in 2012. In 2019 Reggie Ugwu, writing in The New York Times called her one of the most influential of Michael Jackson's biograpers.[3]

Fischer was nominated, twice, for National magazine awards.[2] Most recently she was working for SCOTUSBLOG.

In her review of Fischer's 2006 memoir about dog-napping unloved pet dogs, Stealing love, Miriam Wolf wrote "An unspeakable injustice shook her faith in human beings at a young age..."[4]
