Macdonald Museum (founded in 1982) is a Tourist attraction in Middleton, Canada.[1][2]

Location and Visit

Macdonald Museum is located at 21 School Street, Middleton. The museum is open from mid-spring to mid autumn,[3] and is operated by the Annapolis Valley Historical Society, incorporated in 1978. The AVHS mission statement is To collect, preserve and exhibit the history of the Annapolis Valley from Windsor to Digby”.

The museum has its headquarters in the former Macdonald Consolidated School (1903 to 1979) building, which Sir William C. Macdonald founded and served as the first consolidated school in Canada.[4]

The museum also plays a role as a community center, with both regular and special events throughout the season, including: weekly Farmer’s Markets (each Thursday), arts and crafts workshops, escape room, mock jail, and more. Meeting rental space is also available for private or community events.

History

The museum was originally founded in 1982 to showcase a collection of 150 antique clocks and watches on permanent exhibit from the Nova Scotia Museum. These objects were collected by the late Norman Phinney and sold to the Nova Scotia Museum with the understanding that they be displayed in the Middleton area. The museum was also made possible financially by support from the Macdonald Stewart Foundation.[5]

A one-room schoolhouse and a general store are also on display, and new exhibits are constantly being added.[6][7]
