Cura Global Health(Cura) is a biotechnology-based health and wellness company, specializing in ingredients used in dietary supplements, fortified and functional foods, and nutraceuticals. Cura is known for Ultimine Koji Fermented Mineral products and is headquartered in Ames, Iowa.[1]
Overview and history
Cura was founded by Dr. J .B. Wicking and Yilin Bian in May 2014. Cura has a mission of building a global humanitarian brand focused on improving people’s health and promoting global nutrition.
In 2017, Cura began to market and sell Ultimine Koji Fermented Products globally in the dietary supplements and functional foods markets.
Products
Ultimine
Ultimine line of products are a naturally derived source of whole-food minerals produced under proprietary (patented/patent pending) Koji (Aspergillus oryzae) fermentation. Ultimine Koji fermented Iron has been clinically proven to be highly bioavailable[2] similar to ferrous sulfate, the gold standard of iron bioavailability. Unlike ferrous sulfate, Ultimine Koji Fermented Iron does not generate Non-Transferrin-Bound-Iron (NTBI)[3] In another study, Ultimine Koji fermented Iron absorbed more than 2.8 x better than the standard iron used in fortified food (ferric pyrophosphate).[4]
All products are “Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS)” in the U.S. and considered non-Novel in the E.U., with Ultimine Koji Fermented Iron also being licensed in Canada as an OTC dietary supplement. Cura has established an FDA-registered manufacturing facility for the Ultimine line that has been CGMP certified since 2018.
Apart from calcium derived from dairy products, most essential minerals such as iron and zinc are from inorganic and synthetic sources. The Ultimine product range is a 100% fungal product rich in organic forms of minerals and is an alternative to brands looking to differentiate by formulating with clinically validated whole-food minerals.
