Anjan Bhattacharya is an Indian pediatrician and neonatologist known for his extensive work in the field of pediatrics, neonatology, and developmental pediatrics. With over 35 years of experience, including 12 years in the United Kingdom, Dr. Bhattacharya has made significant contributions to medical education, research, and clinical practice.

Early life and education

Dr. Bhattacharya began his academic journey as a student of Narendrapur Ram Krishna Mission and Jalpaiguri Zilla School. He excelled academically, ranking 25th in his Secondary, Higher Secondary, and Joint Entrance Exams. He pursued his passion for medicine at Medical College, Calcutta, where he graduated with honors in Biochemistry.

Career

Dr. Bhattacharya's career spans several prestigious institutions and roles. He spent 12 years working in the United Kingdom, where he developed a special interest in Developmental Pediatrics. During his time in London, he played a key role in the establishment of the Child Development Centre at Apollo Multispeciality Hospital, India's first integrated center in the corporate healthcare sector.

Dr. Bhattacharya has been actively involved in medical education and examination processes. He served as a Host Examiner for MRCP, UK examinations for children in the UK, and was involved in the DCH, UK India Examination initiative of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (RCPCH), UK. He has also contributed to the National Fellowship program for the Neurodevelopmental Chapter of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) and the DCH/IPPC course for Sydney University, Australia.

As the Head of Academics of the Child Health Department at Apollo Multispeciality Hospital, Kolkata, Dr. Bhattacharya played a pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape. He has also served as a Centre Inspector for the National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi.

Currently, Dr. Bhattacharya serves as the Director of the Post Graduate Diploma for Neurodevelopmental Disorder under the collaborative CCPTR program of the West Bengal University of Technology (now called MAKAUT). He is also the Director of Nabajatak Child Development Centre in Salt Lake, Kolkata.

He was awarded the Pioneer Award by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, East Zone Branch, and the Bharat Jyoti Award by the India International Friendship Society. Dr. Bhattacharya has been recognized internationally for his work in pediatric neurodevelopment. He was selected as one of 27 experts by the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide expert input in an international consensus meeting in Vancouver, Canada, in June 2013, where core standards for ICF (International Classification of Functionality) for children were set.

In addition to his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Bhattacharya is a sought-after speaker at international conferences.
