iGear

The Shark Attack Team is an iGear homage to the 1986 Transformers characters Gnaw and the Sharkticons. It was initially advertised as Shark Sentry.

Development

In July 2009 iGear first advertised a half sized Generation 1 Sharkticon toy.[1]

The initial downsized Generaton 1 Sharkticon design was abandoned by iGear. In August 2011 iGear announced a whole new design Sharkticon called IG-TF005.[2]

iGear posted color prototype images of their "Shark Sentry" on their Facebook page in March 2012.[3]

Designer Bal Dillinger put renders of the Shark design on his Facebook page in September 2012.[4]

Final product and box images of the Shark Attack Squad were posted on Facebook in December 2013.

Reception

The TFWire podcast for August 30th, 2009 had a segment devoted the Shark Sentry price announcement. Jesse didn't think it was worth $60 and worried Hasbro would "crack down" on them.[5]

The Radio Free Cybertron podcast for March 28th, 2012 discussed Shark Sentry as part of their Third Party Roundup.[6]

The Cybercast podcast for December 21st, 2013 discussed Shark Sentry in the news.[7]
