Warnings

  1. Do not impersonate administrators.
  2. Do not blank pages. That is vandalism. WikiAlpha does not have Wikipedia's notability policies.
Warning

You are receiving this warning because:

  1. you blanked an article you didn't write;
  2. or you removed a large block of material from an article you didn't write;
  3. or you hijacked an existing article, turning it into an article about something else;
  4. or you rewrote key passage(s) of an existing article to attack someone;
  5. or you moved an article you didn't write to a nonsense name, or into the Deleted: namespace.

The list of what is ALLOWED here is broad. Wikialpha:CSD lists the kind of material that is subject to deletion.

The list of what is allowed includes (1) articles about scammers; (2) articles by scammers, whatever that might mean; and (3) it even includes articles that look like unrealistic puff-pieces, where someone has written an article about themselves, where they assert they are the greatest rapper in the history of rapping, in Bangladesh.

Please review Wikialpha:CSD. If an article triggers your concern, AND it meets one of those criteria, place a tag on it.

If an article triggers your concern, but it does not meet one of those criteria, your choices include: (1) POLITELY raising your concern, on the article's talk page, or the main contributor's user talk page; or (2) shrugging your shoulders and walking away.

It doesn't matter if material you see here triggers you to hate the author, or the subject of an article, you must be polite.

If the administrator who reviews your deletion tag does not agree with your concern, you can, POLITELY, explain your concern to them again, in more detail. But understand that what is allowed here is very broad.

Note: If you were blocked for vandalism:

  1. and can explain that what you did wasn't vandalism, you can get your block rolled back.
  2. if you can explain that you didn't know any better, and you can make a convincing case that you won't do it again, an administrator may agree to reduce the period of your block.

Ping the administrator who blocked you by leaving a note to them, on your User talk: page, that includes a wikilink to their User: page. [[User:Geo Swan]], for example. When you are blocked you can still write to your User talk: page.

WritingSnowman (talk) 17:45, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

User:WritingSnowman drew my attention to your contribution history. I agreed that the extensive page blanking looked like vandalism.

Blocking you, welcoming you...

Then, when rolling back your edits I saw the first two articles you blanked were written in foreign languages. These are subject to tagging with {{db-language}}, as per Wikialpha:CSD. So, I changed your block from indefinite, to two hours. The tools here do not seem to let me unblock you. If, when rolling back, I find all your page blankings could have been instead the application of a tag from Wikialpha:CSD I will leave you unblocked.

How long do article with one of the {{db-*}} tags sit there before being deleted? Generally at least a week, sometimes much longer. Geo Swan (talk) 07:30, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

I checked all the articles you blanked. They were all eligible for being tagged for speedy deletion. So, Welcome aboard!
I became an administrator here, after contributing articles here for half a dozen years. The site's owner entrusted me with administrator authority to make it easier to work with my own contributions, and without a real mandate, or specific responsibilities for regular administrator duties. I have to bear in mind that lots of material that wouldn't be allowed on the wikipedia is allowed here.
I also picked up how to use the administrator tools jobs here by trial and effort. If you have advice on how to use those tools better, don't hesitate to tell me. Geo Swan (talk) 08:55, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

==Your help...==WTF?

Over on User:XXBlackburnXx you mention communicating via IRC. I am going to ask you about that. I have never used IRC, and know very little about it.

Is it possible to search IRC channels archives, for old comments, to see if someone had a long history of badmouthing you?

I am an administrator here, and indefinitely blocked on the English language Wikipedia. My first block, an indefinite block, was, IMO, very highly questionable. Subsequently, another administrator concluded a WPANI justified placing a community ban upon me. I consider this also very highly questionable.

I am afraid what really happened is that some administrators, and former administrators, who bore childish malicious grudges against me, starting blowing off steam about me on off-wiki fora, like IRC or mailing lists. I am afraid other people allowed them to engage in years of what should really be recognized as highly counter-policy off-wiki harrassment. I am afraid that I was targetted for this off-wiki harassment for over a decade. For over a decade I kept encountering administrators, who I had never interacted with before, who were extremely hostile, who did not see a reason for extending to me the assumption of good faith.

I eventually concluded that I was being unfairly demonized in off-wiki fora, where administrators privately blew off steam. I concluded the hot and hostile administrators had their minds poisoned against me, in those off-wiki fora.

It is my opinion that most of the WPANI comments in the discussion that finalized my community ban, where from administrators, who probably without thinking about it, had tacitly agreed to be meatpuppets. There comments were basically "Yeah, what the other guy said". They provided no diffs. There was every sign they did not take even one minute to take the time to review the record, and reach an independent conclusion as to whether I had originally merited a block, or whether I had done anything since then that merited a community ban.

So, as someone who uses IRC, do these IRC channels keep an archive of messages? And, if they do, or if some do, how long are the archived messages kept, and who can read them?

I think I have an idea as to who the primary meatpuppet-master was. But I won't name them, because, without proof, I think I could be accused of off-wiki harrassment myself.

FWIW, it is understandable that, occasionally, administrators blowing off steam will voice uncivil comments about people who got on their nerves. But, I think the appropriate thing for OTHER wikipedia people to say, in those off-wiki fora, is "Jeez, it sounds like you have some serious policy issues with that guy. What steps have you taken to use the regular wikipedia procedures to spell out those policy concerns? If you don't explain your concerns to them, where they can read them, how would they defend themselves? And if, while trying to defend themselves, don't they have the opportunity to conclude your concerns were valid, and to then stop doing the activity that concerns you? Doesn't wikipedia policy require you to do that?" And if the complainer is let to sputter, and say they hadn't done that, then, no one should accept those complaints as valid.

Anyhow, I'd be very grateful to your help. No, I am not being coy about the actual complaints against me, I'll give you my account, if you like.

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 09:04, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

Welcome to WikiAlpha XXBlackburnXx! Sorry if we jumped the gun too quickly, since we get a lot of vandals and impersonators on WikiAlpha. Thanks for helping us deal all the casino spam. WritingSnowman (talk) 05:15, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

db-spam

I mentioned, above, that I had to learn to use administrator tools here, with no manual and no mentorship.

When I first started applying speedy tags, and then actually deleting content, I saw advantages to not blanking the article when I applied the speedy tag. I just apply the speedy tag at the top, leaving the content alone.

The entry to the deletion log is generated automatically here. Consisting of the first 100 or so bytes of the article. If the speedy tag is at the top, it becomes the first thing in the deletion log entry. And, if the tag was db-language, the remainder of the deletion log should be in some language other than English. The way I see it, this improves open-ness and transparency. Non-administrator third parties can look to the deletion log to confirm that the article really was not written in English.

I also find it very slightly more convenient, when reviewing whether I think the speedy tags applied by other people were merited if the tag is merely applied to the top.

Would you consider applying the tags the way I prefer, moving forward? Or, if you think I am missing something, please spell it out.

Thanks for your maintenance efforts here!

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 12:31, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

  • Hello!
I am going to repeat my thanks for your vandal fighting efforts here!
Can I repeat my request, that, if you find material you think merits one of the speedy tags, in Wikialpha:CSD, that you apply that tag to the top of the material, without blanking the page? I'll find your tag placement, or another administrator will find your tag. I think it eases the work required to process the speedy deletion.
If you have advice on how you think I could exercise my administrator bit better, I am open to hearing them.
Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 15:51, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
I am going to ask User:WritingSnowman for his opinion. I do not think this is actually spam.
  1. I think it would measure up to Wikialpha:CSD definition of spam if someone had stuffed essentially the same content into Playing Baccarat. But I don't think a single instance of this content is not spam.
  2. It could be argued that a single instance of this content, here, is spam, if a single individual were bombing wikialpha, and every other non-WMF wiki with the idential content. Strictly speaking, I am not sure that measures up to Wikialpha:CSD. I am going to ask User:Mathewignash if he has an opinion...
    • I googled the first two sentences of the article, and wikialpha was the only hit, which I think means this content wasn't carpet-bombed onto all non-WMF wikis...
  3. I suspect this content was, originally, cut and paste from somewhere else. That would make it eligible for speedy deletion as a copyright violoation. But I am not comfortable deleting material as a copyright violation, without a link to earlier instances of the same content.
I've blocked User:nonokinder, the individual who most recently reverted a bunch of your vandal fighting.
I know I just requested this, a few minutes ago, but, could you please place your speedy deletion tags, while leaving the questionable content untouched? At least unless you regard the questionable content as actually dangerous, like outing the real world identity of a child, or non-notable person? Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 16:12, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

db-spam or db-language

You have blanked some pages, putting {{db-spam}} in your edit summary. I've subsequently restored the original questionable material, and used {{db-language}}, including: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]. I've put the {{db-language}} both at the top of the page, and in the edit summary.

When questionable material is both clearly a violation of Wikialpha:CSD's prohibition against non-English content, and maybe, also, its prohibition against SPAM, I suggest it should be deleted for the easy to recognize language violation.

WRT spam, Wikialpha is FULL of articles that would violate Wikipedia's COI policy. In my opinion, these are not SPAM, so long as they seem to follow the general pattern of an article. If material is written to look like an ad, not an article, then it merits {{db-spam}}.

I'm pinging @SilvaFoxx, who added some plain old {{db}} tags after you tagged them.

And, as above, if you tag any more material, could you merely place your tag on top of the material that triggered your concern, and not simply blank the page?

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 18:27, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Please be more careful...

Two days ago I put a tag on Gi8, a page written in Vietnamese, saying it was subject to speedy deletion, because it was not written in English.

Today you blanked that page, without using an edit summary. Maybe you did so because your experience told you it was spam. I don't speak Vietnamese. I don't know it was spam.

I have the administrator bits to delete non-English text, whenever I see it. But, unless I recognize the contributor as a repeat offender, I give them a grace period, to translate the text into English.

About five percent of the time the contributor DOES translate the article into English. The article on Diana_Valencia is an example. Five percent compliance is enough for me to think the extra effort of giving people a grace period is worthwhile.

So, while I welcome your vandal fighting efforts, I am going to repeat my request that you cooperate with me.

  1. If you see material you think meets the criteria in Wikialpha:CSD, and it is not already tagged for deletion, please go ahead and add a speedy deletion tag.
  2. Please do not also blank the page.
  3. If it is ALREADY tagged for speedy deletion, I request you, either, (1) just leave it alone, as it will be deleted soon if the tag is valid; (2) if it is tagged due to language, and you think it is ALSO spam, go ahead and add a second speedy deletion page.
  4. Please do not also blank the page.

Here, on wikialpha, the default deletion log entry consists of the first several dozen bytes of the page. When the page begins with a speedy deletion tag then the deletion log entry automatically gets a meaningful deletion log entry. I'd like you to cooperate with me here.

Yes, if the page represents a genuine danger, like a death threat, or doxing, it is okay to blank it.

We are on the same side here, aren't we? Geo Swan (talk) 15:08, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

Could you please explain...

You have blanked Sim_Thăng_Long, multiple times, with an edit summary of {{db-spam}}.

If you come across a page you think meets one of the criteria in Wikialpha:CSD could you please place the tag at the top of the page, without erasing its content - unless you consider it a genuine emergency like a vandal is doxing someone?

If the material is written in a foreign language, could you please put {{db-language}} at the beginning, not {{db-spam}}?

In my opinion when the page creator translated the page into English it no longer met a CSD criteria. Inclusion criteria are broad here, and, I think they are broad enough to include puff pieces about companies - like this one. CSD bars "unambiguous advertizing". IMO pages that are written to look like articles are not "unambiguous advertizing", even if they seem promotional.

I am going to ping User:WritingSnowman and User:Mathewignash, and ask them if they think this is spam.
