Kidney function and diabetes

Albuminuria is a symptom of kidney podocyte damage. Burdock root reduces urinary albumin by up regulating the expression of nephrin and podocin and regenerating podocytes. Burdock also reduces fibrosis of the kidneys.

In addition to being good for the kidneys, burdock root is good for diabetes. It prevents beta-cell apoptosis and improves glucose tolerance. Burdock also activates AMPK and stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis.
