Samantha Rivera is a student at Du Paul University who was a victim of identity theft.[1] She was surprised to learn a picture of her was being represented as one of Republican Senator Ted Cruz's mistresses. She concluded her picture was chosen, essentially at random, when a hoaxster created a phony twitter account, for "Jennifer Carr", a reporter who claimed to have had an extramarital affair with Cruz.
Rivera went on record that she had not had sex with Cruz, had, in fact, never met him.[1]
In wishing her well, online magazine Gawker wrote[1]:
- "Rivera has never actually met Ted Cruz, and it’s rude to insist otherwise. We wish her all the best in clearing her family’s name. Because truthfully, no one deserves to be sexually linked with Ted Cruz—not even his wife.[1]"
