Sumy is a small patrol vessel, operated by the Ukrainian Navy.[1][2]

She was the fourth of five patrol vessels of the United States Coast Guard provided to Ukraine after approximately 30 years of service in the USCG.[1][2]

Design

As built for the USCG they were powered by two diesel engines that gave them a maximum speed of 25 knots. They were armed with a 25 mm autocannon, and a pair of Browning M2 fifty caliber machine guns. They were designed to be operated by a crew of two officers and 14 enlisted sailors. The five vessels were USCGC Drummond, USCGC Cushington, USCGC Ocracoke, USCGC Washington and USCGC Kiska.

The vessels were disarmed, prior their handover to Ukraine. Soviet-era 25mm autocannon were installed to replace the 25mm autocannon she carried in USCG service.

Operational career

It is not known what role the Sumy has played in Ukraine's conflict with Russia, but her sister ship, Sloviansk was lost, with all hands, in combat, in early March 2022.
