Sgt. David Cherkes (fireboat)

The fireboat Sgt. David Cherkes, launched on June 1st, 2023, is operated by the Suffolk County Police Department, in New York state.[1] In Suffolk County marine firefighting is the responsibility of the Police Department's Marine Bureau.
The 38 foot vessel was named in honor of a highly respected officer who served in the Marine Bureau, who had continued to work for the Bureau as he fought against the cancer that killed him in 2020.[1]
The vessel was built by Safe Boats International of Bremerton, Washington.[1] The vessel is equipped for search and rescue in addition to firefighting.[2]
