Rayan Hamdoush is an Australian woman, from Sydney, who made her way to the al Hawl refugee camp, in Syria, after the collapse of the so-called Islamic State.[1]

According to press reports Hamdoush traveled to ISIS territory with her husband, Mustafa Hajj-Obeid, who is twenty years her senior.[1] According to The Guardian, her husband is missing.[2]

She gave birth to a boy in the al Hawl camp on November 30, 2019.[1][2] Her son is entitled to Australian citizenship, but that citizenship is not automatic, a formal application for citizenship must be submitted.
