Peter Sereny

Peter Sereny (born May 9, 1943) is an American scientist, physician, surgeon, and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of HealthIS, Brick&Mortar LLC, and founder of Amkai Inc, and RESoft LLC.

Early life and education

Sereny was born to Endre and Erzsebet Szorenyi. He completed his bachelor's at UCLA in 1968 and his MD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, NY, in 1972.[1][2] He also attended courses on negotiations at Harvard Law School, School between 1998 and 2004.

Career

Sereny completed his internship at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine from 1972 to 1973. He received further postgraduate training as a Resident at the Icahn School of Medicine from 1973 till 1975.[1] Later, he became the Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and Attending Physician at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Attending Physician at Hartford Hospital.

In 1978, he was appointed Associate Medical Director at the Hartford Insurance Group and served there until 1984.

In 1986, Sereny was appointed Founding Chief Medical Director at CIGNA HealthPlan, where he worked until 1988. At CIGNA, he was the Co-Chair of the Medical Standards Committee, Grievance Committee, Credentials Committee, Claims Committee, and Executive Committee of CIGNA- ProCare IPA.

In 1986, he founded Health Information Systems (HealthIS, also known as HIS),[1] through which he developed and supported state-of-the-art software and systems solutions for the health care industry, including physician practices and the ASC (ambulatory surgery center) and SH (surgical hospital) markets. Under his leadership as CEO and Chairman, he drove the company to market dominance in the US (37% market penetration).[1] In 2002, he sold the company to HealthSouth.[3]

In 1986, Sereny co-founded S&S, a real estate partnership acquiring and managing commercial real estate in the North East US.[4] The holdings included an office complex in Wallingford's Research Industrial Park with 250+ parking spaces and 20+ lessees. He remained the Managing partner of the firm until 2002.

From 1996 -1997, Sereny was a member of a Committee of the National Science Foundation (NSF), appointed by the President of the US to advise the government on the use of technology in education.

In 1996, he became the Editor in Chief of Medical Update, overseeing authors' contributions and writing articles.

In 2012, he became the co-founder, CEO, Chairman, and Principal Broker of Brick&Mortar LLC (B&M), a full-service Brooklyn, NYC-based boutique real estate Brokerage.[3][5] Since 2002, he has attended the annual Intensive Review of Internal Medicine conference at the Harvard Medical School bi-yearly.

In 2003, he founded Quality Properties International (QPI LLC)[4] and QPI KFT (the European division) and was their Managing Partner until 2007.

In 2004, Sereny founded Amkai, Inc., of which he was CEO and Chairman.[1][6] Amkai was reorganized as Amkai, LLC. in 2009. In 2014, Amkai was sold to SIS of Atlanta, GA.[3] As of 2019 Amkai Charts (an EHR) was in use in 83% of ASCs.

In 2017, he founded RESoft LLC,[1][3] a software development company to fill a void in the real estate brokerage market, namely, to provide a paperless all-inclusive solution serving the brokerage and the agent from lead generation to closing the transaction and beyond.

Sereny has been attending the yearly symposium at the American College of Cardiology since 2018. He was featured on a TV program Money Hunt (precursor of Shark Tank), where he won. He has been interviewed on the radio: Past, Present, and Future of Electronic Health Records and has been featured several times on Internal Medical News, Allergy and Immunology News, and ObGyn News. Sereny delivered a keynote speech at Jacob Javits Center, titled, Past, Present, and Future of EHR.
