Early life and education

YK grew up in Forest Hill, along with his older brothers Dean (Kid D) and Benjamin (Two 3 Benji). The Robertson family's roots in Forest Hill influenced his artistic expression. He attended Forest Hill Boys' School. Later he pursued his higher education from De Montfort University and SAE Institute London.

YK's father, Oscar, belongs to the Ga-Adangbe tribe, known for their rich cultural heritage in Ghanaian culture. His mother is from the Fante people, which added cultural diversity to YK's upbringing.

Career

YK gained recognition as an underground artist with his debut track, a remix of "Airglow Fires" by Lone, on SoundCloud. The remix garnered attention, leading to a feature on “Earmilk” in 2014. Since then, he has released critically acclaimed works, showcasing his ability to use influences from his family's roots in the early scene and his Ghanaian heritage.
