Magazine (firearm)

All but the simplest modern firearms rely on a magazine, so the user can fire multiple projectiles before having to reload.

pump action shotguns store shells in a tube below their barrel, and those shells have to be pushed into the loading port one at a time.

Some firearms, like the pistols known as revolvers, or pump-action shotguns, require the user to manually reload another set of projectiles, when their initial projectiles have been expended.

The M1 Garand, the firearm used by most US soldiers during World War 2, had an internal magazine that was recharged with a clip holding eight bullets. At the time this was known as an "en-bloc magazine". These clips cost less than a box magazine, and weighed less, meaning a soldier could carry more bullets
