M.S Faizal Khan

M.S. Faizal Khan (born May 28, 1982) is an academic administrator and humanitarian. He is the pro-chancellor of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education.[1] He is also the managing director of NIMS Medicity.[2] MS Faizal Khan led the discussions of introducing space engineering for Maldives youth.[3]Khan was present at the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 and presented on the impact of energy projects related to renewable energy.[4]

Early Life and Education

Khan was born to Syphniza and Majeed Khan in the Indian village of Neyyattinkara in the Trivandrum district of Kerala.

He completed his Master of Science in Software Engineering from Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education in 2005.

Career

Khan is the Managing Director of Noorul Islam Institute of Medical Science and Research Foundation (NIMS Medicity), a multispecialty hospital in Trivandrum, Kerala.[5][6][7] He was entrusted with establishing the healthcare facility.

During his leadership, NIMS Hospital and Research Foundation introduced Green Cardiac Catheterization Lab in Asia,[5] providing cardiac health performing angioplasties in Neyyattinkara Taluk. It established a 220-kW solar power plant on its NIMS Medicity campus to power the cardiac catheterization lab. The solar power plant has been established by Mitra Samyoga Energy Private Limited, an industrial entity under the Noorul Islam Group of Institutions.[7] NIMS Initiated a free treatment and drugs for AIDS patients clinic and a liver cirrhosis detection clinic, and a category "C" Covid Care Centre at NIMS Medicity and treated more than 8000 patients.

Khan was responsible for projects, including switching to Khadi uniforms to promote patriotic fervor and support the ailing Khadi employees and handloom sectors.[8] He led Green Industrial Revolution (GIR), an initiative with NICHE to adopt modern technologies for clean and resource-efficient industrialization, a 400 bedded, tertiary-level hospital in the rural outskirts of Neyyattinkara catering to the holistic healthcare needs of South Kerala and South Tamilnadu, and the Centre of Excellence in Life Science by KASE (Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence. Govt of Kerala) approved NIMS Centre For Medical Genomics, equipped with automated instruments such as QiaCUBE and QIAjilIty, BioRad CFX96, QuantStudio 6 Flex, Zybio 3000, Thermo Ion Torrent PGM and their all allied tools.

Other projects include:

  • Neyyattinkara pension scheme: A monthly pension of Rs. 1150.00 is given to all the disabled children belonging to seven Panchayats and 44 wards of Neyyattinkara Municipality from June 2021 onwards.
  • Heart To Heart Project: A free heart surgery project by NIMS Medicity associated with Padmashree Barath Mammootty. It performed heart surgeries for the downtrodden patients of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam Districts.
  • Free Dialysis project: Sai Kiran is a free renal transplantation program initiated with Sathysai Seva Trust, Sai Gramam, Thiruvananthapuram, for performing free renal transplantation for financially downtrodden persons. Thangum Thanalum has been undertaken with Marthoma Church, Nanthancode, Trivandrum, to provide free dialysis to economically oppressed people.
  • Homecare For The Bedridden Patients: Red Cross volunteers of NIMS Medicity conduct regular home visits to check the condition of patients and provide them with solace. Procedures are performed, including catheterization and wound care during home visits, saving the patient from being taken to the hospital for this purpose.
  • NIMS Annapoorna: It is a free food items kit for inpatients, a project implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic in association with Triveni Consumerfed, where all inpatients of NIMS Medicity, at the time of their discharge, will be provided with a coupon which may be redeemed at the Triveni Consumerfed mobile shop stationed at NIMS Medicity campus for purchase of groceries and other essential commodities.
  • Medical Aid For BPL Patients: Its treatment cost is for needy, financially downtrodden persons.
  • NIMS Free Medical Camps: It provides health care services to meet marginalized communities' immediate health care needs in remote rural areas through camps.

In December 2019, Khan set up NIMS SPECTRUM Child Development Research Centre to support differently-abled children from underprivileged backgrounds by offering their facilities free of charge.[9]

Khan is pro-Chancellor of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE) in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.[5][6] During his tenure, Noorul Islam University launched a nano-satellite, NIUSAT, in association with ISRO in June 2017 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikotta, which is India's 98th satellite and the first private satellite from Kerala to launch into space along with 20 others using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) for disaster management and crop monitoring.[10][11] It is initiated by the Genetic research laboratory in Kerala at NIMS Medicity. It can complete genetic profiling to help predict and prevent many major illnesses in future generations.

In 2007, Khan established NIMS Heart Foundation, a specialized cardiac care center in South Kerala.

In May 2015, Khan was one of the panelists at the Sustainable Energy For All Forum conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York.[5][6] He talked about how NIMS combined solar panels and vertical axis wind turbines to continuously generate electricity at a steady voltage to run the Cath Lab.[12]

His book Bhayam Nirbhayam is adapted into Sunil Ibrahim's film, The Third Murder.[13] Khan wrote the novel Swapna Vyagaram,[14] Yanthrakkasera,[15][16] Thavittu Niramulla Pakshi,[17] and Uravidam in Malyalam.
