Katina Stefanova (born 20 August 1975) is an Bulgarian-American investor, strategic leader in asset management and financial services, keynote speaker.[1] She is the founder and CEO of Marto Capital – a multi-strategy macro-economic investment firm focused on fundamental models.[2]

Early life and education

Stefanova was born on 20 August 1975 in Sofia, Bulgaria. At the age of 18, she moved to the United States and completed her BA in international relations from Brigham Young University in 1998.[3] She then joined Harvard Business School in 2003 and received a MBA in Business Administration and Management in 2005.[4][5]

Career

Stefanova began working in 1998 in an accounting firm, Arthur Andersen, where she served in mergers and acquisitions advisory services, including valuation and post-merger integration in the technology and telecommunication sector.[4] In 1999, she became a director of international business development for AdRelevance.[3]

In 2000, Stefanova joined IBM’s Mergers and Acquisitions practice for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.[3] In addition, she participated in IBM’s financial services PBO deal and led large post-merger integration initiatives for financial services clients in Europe and Asia.[5]

Stefanova started serving as a senior executive and management committee advisor at Bridgewater Associates in 2005.[5] In 2014 she left the company and co-founded AcordIQ, a company that delivers portfolio intelligence and governance solutions with consulting services to asset managers and institutional investors.[5]

At the end of 2015, Stefanova launched a multi-strategy asset management firm, Marto Capital, in New York.[6][7] As of 2021, she is the CEO and CIO of Marto Capital.[8]

Stefanova is a board member of One Heart Bulgaria, a charity that helps orphans in her native country.[9] In November 2019, She was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, to serve as a member of the Investment Committee of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund.[10]

Stefanova is a regular article writer with particular focus on disruption in asset management, technology innovation, and macro markets. She contributes on TechCrunch,[11][12] Forbes[13][14] and the European Hedge Fund Journal.[15]
