Kathleen Hall (born August 12, 1951) is an author, entrepreneur, stress management, and healthy lifestyle expert.[1] She is the Founder of Oak Haven, The Hermitage, The Stress Institute,[2][3] and Mindful Living Network.[4][5][6]

Education and Training

Hall holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Jacksonville State University, a Master of Divinity from Emory University, and a Doctorate in Spirituality from Columbia Theological Seminary.[7] She studied the effects of stress under medical pioneers, including Herbert Benson at the Harvard Mind/Body Institute, Dean Ornish of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute, and Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Stress Reduction Center. Hall received spiritual tutelage from Nobel Peace Prize recipients, including Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Jimmy Carter.[8]

Career

Hall started her career in finance at the World Trade Center in New York. After working on Wall Street, she left power, wealth, and corporate stress behind her and established Oak Haven, a 300-acre farm in Clarkesville, Georgia. In 1988, Hall built The Hermitage, a health, education, and training center that serves as a horse farm, a retreat for wildlife, and abandoned/sheltered dogs and cats.

Hall is the CEO of The Stress Institute,[8] formulated as Wellness Solutions in 1997. After working as a stress expert at The Stress Institute, she became the CEO of Mindful Living Network[5][9] to promote mindfulness, health, stress resilience, and work-life balance established in 2007. Hall set up Mindful Living TV, a TV network focused on original programming and launched the Mindful Living Network website on August 8, 2008. However, after she had a traumatic brain injury and near-death experience when a car operated by a distracted driver struck her as she crossed a street in Beverly Hills in 2009, she held the TV network project from proceeding. Mindful Living Network later evolved into an online outlet and digital platform.

Hall created a show, Alter Your Life, focused on everyday people learning how to de-stress and live with mindfulness by being invited for a weekend at The Hermitage to learn about stress resilience. Her other original shows included The Meditation Room, Mindful Living Everyday, The Way I see it,[10] and Live An Intentional Life.[11]

Hall ran a weekly radio show, Live with Dr. Kathleen Hall, for many years at WTOP.[8]

Hall released the debut book A Life In Balance,[12] regarding her journey from working on Wall Street to creating an institute for mind-body, complementary medicine. She penned her second book, Alter Your Life,[13] a candid view on mindful living that requires no doctrines or trekking off to distant lands. After being away from the limelight, Hall emerged with her third book, Uncommon H.O.P.E.,[14] which is a prescription for enjoying a rich life of mindful living. The book was finished mainly before her accident but was published a year later, awaiting her final edits. Her latest book Mindful Living Everyday is a revised and updated edition based on her 1995 book, Alter Your Life.

Hall is a contributing writer for PINK Magazine. She was included in a chapter of John St. Augustine's book based on 21 extraordinary people and was featured in a book by Larry Dossey. Moreover, Hall was coined "The Stress Queen" by Martha Stewart Publications.[8]

In 2008, she interacted with Pogo's over 13 million users, offering stress-management advice and relaxation tips.[3]

In 2022, Hall was the speaker at the second annual Rt. Hon. Robert L. Stanfield Conversation: Talking Democracy at Dalhousie University on Digital Democracy.[15]

Social Contributions

Throughout this journey, Hall worked with high-risk inner-city children at the Atlanta Day Shelter for battered women and children, facilitated cardiac rehabilitation programs, and counseled and comforted the sick and dying. She was involved in hospice care and continued to explore the concept that science meets the soul.

Media Appearances

Hall was a corporate spokesperson on stress management for several Fortune 500 companies, including Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Procter and Gamble, Unilever, Princess Cruise Lines, Tempur-Pedic, and Darden Restaurants. She has been featured on CNN Headline News, CNN International, MSNBC, Anderson Cooper 360, ESPN, CBS, NBC's The Today Show, Oprah & Friends, ABC News, Good Morning America Radio, Fortune, Forbes, Washington Post, Money Magazine, L.A. Times, Associated Press, Redbook, Glamour, Working Woman, Oprah Magazine, Business Week, Parents, Cosmopolitan, Real Simple, Woman's Day,[8] Fox News, Dr. Oz Show, Martha Stewart's Body and Soul, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Times, WebMD, Huffington Post,[4] and TEDMED.
