Early Life and Education

Fishel was born to David and Eileen Fishel in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was named after his paternal grandfather (Joseph Victor Fishel), a PFC in the US Army, who was killed on the island of Luzon in the Philippines during World War II on July 25, 1945.[2]

Fishel is a graduate of Butler Area Senior High School in Butler, Pennsylvania. He earned an undergraduate degree from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and two graduate degrees from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.[2][7]

Fishel's experience with filmmaking began in an eighth-grade elective course as part of a group project to develop a presentation on BMX racing. In high school, Fishel completed photography, graphic arts, multimedia design, and film analysis courses. During his years at Juniata College, he was active in All Class Night, a live theatrical presentation written, produced, and performed by student body members. Furthermore, he attained an FCC license while involved in the Juniata College radio station.[7]

He has appeared in uncredited roles in several Hollywood productions such as The Dark Knight Rises,[8] The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Promised Land, and Jack Reacher. He has also been credited with movies, including Matt Croyle’s production Potential Inertia[9] and The Other Side. Fishel had a SAG-AFTRA contract for Concussion,[7] but his scene was cut from the theatrical version and appeared in the extras/deleted scenes.
