Founded by Guy M. Nielson in 1935 in Pocatello, Idaho, GUY NIELSON CO. has grown into a nationally recognized refractory contractor over the last 80 years. We take pride in our rich history and our commitment to delivering exceptional results.
Our journey began as structural masonry installers, working on commercial, institutional, and residential projects. As the industry leader in the area, we completed prestigious projects for major clients such as Monsanto, J. R. Simplot, FMC, and local sugar and potato processing plants.
In 1982, we established the Guy Nielson Co. Industrial Division, venturing into the realm of refractory work. As refractory specialists, we expanded our service offerings, enabling us to collaborate with clients nationwide. Our expertise in refractory solutions became highly sought after, making us a trusted partner for various industries.
Recognizing the need for custom pre-fired refractory shapes, we opened our pre-cast shop in 1992. This facility allows us to create bespoke refractory solutions tailored to our clients' needs, especially when working with existing fixtures that require refractory work.
Driven by our commitment to growth and excellence, we have acquired other companies to expand our areas of service. In 2004, we acquired Hilton Fire Brick, which had offices in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Billings, Montana. This strategic move further strengthened our workforce and capabilities. In 2015, we acquired Refractory Specialties Inc., reinforcing our position in the industry and increasing our ability to serve our valued clients.
To better serve our expanding client base, we have also established additional offices in Mt. Vernon, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. These locations allow us to provide localized support and maintain close relationships with our clients.
