Denny Bulcão, Jr.
Dennis Edward Bulcão, Jr. (born January 22, 1976) is an American writer with more than 20 years of experience as a sports writer, TV/newspaper journalist, and marketing/technical writer. He is the Founder and CEO of DennyWrites.com, LLC[1] and 1stClassWriting.com, LLC.
Early life and education
Bulcão, Jr. was born in San Diego, CA, the oldest of six children. He started working at the age of 12, as a busboy for Dee’s Pan Fried Chicken at the Del Mar Fair and as a paperboy for the San Diego Union. His mother is a retired public high school Child Development/Home Economics teacher and his father is a retired masonry contractor. His stepfather is a retired San Diego Transit bus driver.
Bulcão, Jr. attended Blessed Sacrament Parish School, San Diego, CA from grade K-8, and graduated from University of San Diego High School (USDHS) in 1994 (now Cathedral Catholic). He holds a BA in Communication from Saint Mary’s College of California (Moraga). His first job out of college was as a sports writer for The San Diego Union-Tribune and The Associated Press.
Bulcão, Jr. was diagnosed with bipolar I disorder just after graduating from high school. This sidetracked his dream of playing Division I tennis at Saint Mary’s, as he had to medically withdraw from the college in the fall and spring of his freshman year (1994-1995). With help from family and Kaiser Permanente counseling, he eventually transferred back to Saint Mary’s. His athletic eligibility clock expired, so he focused on sports writing, radio broadcasting, and PA announcing before graduating in 2003 with a BA in Communication.
Bulcão, Jr. still enjoys competing in United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments. His junior tennis rankings include #10 in San Diego County, Boys 18's singles, and #57 in Southern California Boys 18's singles.
Career
Bulcão, Jr. has more than two decades of professional writing and editing experience, working with Fortune 100 companies, startups, small business owners, students, and job seekers. He has crafted successful content strategies for businesses operating in various industries, simplifying complex concepts into concise and easy-to-read written content.
Bulcão, Jr. has worked with several prestigious companies, including The Associated Press, The San Diego Union-Tribune, McCann NY, GE, Google, Apple, Samsung, Visa, Capital One, Oracle, Wells Fargo, MetLife, U.S. Bank, Hitachi, USAA, PayPal, Lexmark, The California Teachers Association, The United States Olympic Committee, three CBS-TV stations, PETCO, HD Supply, The State Bar of California and more.[2][3]
During the Great Recession of 2007-2009, Bulcao, Jr. relocated to San Antonio, TX (USAA), Austin, TX (PayPal), Warwick, RI (MetLife), and Lexington, KY (Lexmark) for writing contracts.
Bulcão, Jr. founded DennyWrites.com in 2003 and 1stClassWriting.com in 2023. 1stClassWriting.com is a team of content managers, writers, and copy editors that specialize in delivering SEO website content for every industry.[4] Both LLCs are headquartered in San Diego, CA.[5]
Prior to founding DennyWrites.com, Bulcão, Jr. worked as a Technical Content Writer at Intuit, Finance Course Writer at Quest CE, and many more. He has held four contract positions with Google as a Senior Technical Writer and Editor.
Bulcão, Jr. was a TV News Anchor and Reporter at CBS-TV affiliates in Grand Junction, CO (KREX) and Bakersfield, CA (KBAK), and a Sports Director at Saint Mary's College of California for KSMC Radio 89.5 FM.[6]
Personal life
Bulcão, Jr. married Briana Leigh Hill in October 2022 and is based in Southern California.[7] They have one son, Dennis Edward Bulcão III.
Bulcão, Jr.'s surname is Portuguese. He is also Italian, German, and French-Canadian.
