Brett Rosen (born July 8, 1989) is an American criminal defense attorney[1] based in New Jersey.[2] His practice areas include criminal law, domestic violence, DUI & DWI, juvenile law, white-collar crime, and personal injury.[3][4] He has represented high-profile clients, such as celebrities facing domestic violence or drug charges.[5][6][7][8] Rosen is currently an associate at The Haddad Law Firm, PC., a boutique law firm that handles complex cases in practice areas, including personal injury, business disputes, civil rights, and white-collar crime.[9] He actively seeks to raise awareness and advocates for protecting human rights.[10]

Early life and education

Rosen was born in Ridgewood, NJ. After completing undergraduate studies at the University of Rhode Island, he enrolled at Roger Williams University School of Law, earning a juris doctor degree in 2015. Brett Rosen was admitted to the practice of law in 2015.[11]

Rosen decided to pursue law school after he met a former FBI agent, someone he aspired to become. He informed him that the FBI primarily sought accountants and lawyers. Since he wasn’t strong in math, he chose to pursue law. Rosen is a first-generation lawyer who weathered skepticism from his professors and took a pay cut to pursue his passion for criminal defense law.[12]

Career

During his final year of law school, Rosen interned at the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, coincidentally while they were prosecuting the football player Aaron Hernandez. This allowed him to witness parts of the trial and even be close to the courtroom.[13] He also participated in the Advanced Criminal Defense Clinic as a student attorney[14] and tried a bench trial at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal.[15]

After graduating with his J.D., Rosen initially worked at a personal injury firm before joining the Law Offices of Eric H. Bennett. Eric Bennett had a profound impact on his life. Under his guidance, he gained extensive experience in trial litigation, especially the intricacies of jury trials, conducting nine jury trials in nine months.[16] Following the Law Offices of Eric H. Bennett, and driven by a deep sense of justice and a desire to protect the rights of the accused, Rosen pursued his passion for criminal law and joined a renowned criminal defense law firm,[17] Carluccio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle, & Sacks, LLC., in Toms River, New Jersey, handling civil and criminal litigation, as well as employment law, family law, and elder law.[18]

Rosen is a mental health and well-being activist within the legal profession. Moreover, he is keenly interested in advancements in artificial intelligence and their impact on the legal industry. He recognizes the potential of AI-powered tools in legal research and case analysis, staying well-informed of new developments to enhance his practice.[19]

Notable cases

Throughout his career, Rosen has defended many individuals who could have faced decades of imprisonment. Some of such cases include:[20]

The Edilberto “Eddie” Torres case, who was charged in 2019. According to the prosecutors, Torres made inappropriate physical contact with the minor, a martial arts studio student. The child ultimately reported this to Bloomfield Police. In April 2023, the 56-year-old owner of Kokusai Karate Dojo was found not guilty of charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.[21]

In another case involving a Grammy-award-winning artist facing drug charges, Rosen effectively navigated the complexities of the case to enroll his client in a pre-trial intervention and, in another case, convince the prosecutor to amend a drug charge to a non-criminal offense.[22]

Rosen represented a celebrity in a domestic violence case. She had a temporary restraining order placed against her. He got the restraining order dismissed before it went to trial on a final restraining order.[23]
