Academic Contributions
In 2023, Webb contributed to the academic field of psychedelic hermeneutics with his research and a paper entitled Nested hermeneutics: Mind at Large as a curated trope of psychedelic experience in the Taylor and Francis Interdisciplinary Science Reviews journal. [13]
Critique of Aldous Huxley's ‘Mind at Large’
In his 2023 paper, Webb highlights previously un-noted errors and manipulations of discourse in Aldous Huxley’s 1954 book The Doors of Perception. Webb criticizes Huxley’s concept of “Mind at Large,” arguing it relies on misquotations and misinterpretation of the philosophers C. D. Broad and Henri Bergson. Webb highlights inconsistencies in Huxley's construction of qualification for an ‘expanded’ mind capable of pansentience. He argues that Huxley’s removal of key qualifiers from C. D. Broad’s 1949 summary of Bergson’s process philosophy skews the interpretation that Huxley applies to Mind at Large.
