The human rights movement in Bangladesh is led by 'Acharya Md. Nazrul Islam Tamiji (born 27th October) , a shining star. In Bangladesh as well as globally, he is respectfully addressed to as "Acharya Tamiji Sir."

When the poetry book "Muktipan" was published in 1988, he made his literary entrance. Sixty-three books have been published were written by him. (53 plays, three novels, four poetry book, and three research book). He established the National Human Rights Society on 10 December 2001. Already this organization has been widely appreciated at national and international level.He demanded the establishment of a government Human Rights Commission and a separate Ministry for Human Rights in a human chain held at the Central Shaheed Minar on the occasion of the World Human Rights Day on 10 December 2004. On December 10, 2020, World Human Rights Day, Acharya Tamiji Sir urged the government to allocate 10,000 crores of financial assistance for nearly half a million people, including about 800,000 teachers and their family members of 40,000 kindergartens in Bangladesh.[1] The National Human Rights Commission and the establishment of postage stamps with the photo of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam are significant achievements of Acharya Tamiji Sir and this organization.

Even as the chairman of the country's top human rights organization, the Secretary General of the 'Human Rights Coalition', the Chairman of the 'Manabatar Manch', or the Advisory Editor of the national daily 'Daily Swadesh Bichitra', Acharya Tamiji Sir is used to living a simple life. [2] He is an uncompromising human rights activist in Banglades.25 February 2017 he Demanded inclusion of anti-militancy and anti-narcotics consciousness in our textbooks in a seminar.[3]

Early Life

Acharya Md. Nazrul Islam Tamiji was born in a noble Muslim family (Tamiji Manjil) in Manduk village of Barura in Comilla district, Bangladesh. Date of birth is 27 October. His father Dr. Nurul Amin Tamiji is the highest national awarded cooperator. His Mother Mrs. Nazma Amin Tamiji who is the founder of Bangladesh Women's Welfare Foundation is a successful housewife.

He has two sons, ASM Tamiji Shahriar and ASM Tamiji Shrabon, studying in Poyalgacha Degree College at Comilla and Grammar School at Dhaka.

Education

Acharya Tamiji Sir did his primary and lower secondary studies at Manduk Government Primary School, Comilla Zila School. He Passed SSC examination with merit from Sonaimuri High School. After that he studied at Payalgacha Degree College, Adda Degree College and Comilla Victoria Government College. He Graduated with a Master's degree with honors in English. While studying at Bangabandhu Law College, he served as the President of Comilla Gonodabi Student Council. He holds Master's degrees in Law, Bengali, Economics, Political Science, Development Studies and Sociology. He admitted in the honors course at Dhaka University but left the course on the orders of his father. Later he obtained his master's degree with merit from the Department of Sociology of Dhaka University. Currently, he is serving as the President of Dhaka University Sociology and Social Policy Alumni Association and Chairman of Dhaka University Social Thinking Research Center.

Biography

Acharya Tamiji Sir is equally popular in both Bengals.He is known internationally as a human rights theorist, sociologist and root-seeking writer. He has been faithfully serving as the President of Bangladesh Sociologist Forum (BSF), Chairman of the Permanent Council of India Bangladesh Human Rights Alliance and Chairman of Kabisangsad Bangladesh Foundation.

Liberation war 1971-based drama 'Bijoyer Potaka' and Language movement-based drama 'Rashtra Bhasha Bangla Chai'have been staged in hundreds of educational institutions of Bangladesh.

Teaching

Acharya Md. Nazrul Islam Tamiji is very much oriented towards academics and took upon himself about creating awareness regarding the field of Human Rights among the human rights workers when the field itself was known to very few and was being exploited by quacks mostly. He delivered more than hundreds of training programme of National Human Rights Society.
