Mant-Axe is a fictional character and robot toy made by BMOG Toys. He is an evil robotic manta ray.

BMOG Toys

Mant-Axe is a character from the BMOG (Bio-Mechanical Ordnance Gestalts) toy line. He is not an homage to any existing character, but meant to be used as either a stand-alone figure, or as accessories to any toy capable of using 5mm port accessories, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Zoids Blox, and many others.

Development

The BMOG Toys manta mold was designed by Trent Troop. The axe form is inspired by the axe that comes with He-Man. The outline was first teased on the BMOG Tumblr page in October 2013.[1]

Trent announced Mant-Axe online on various message boards in October 2013. Initially its name was spelled Mantaxe, but it was developed under the spelling Mantax. Ultimately the spelling was changed to Mant-Axe, possibly to avoid confusion with the Bionical toy named Mantax.

Fundraising for the BMOG Toys bear and manta mold was done through Kickstarter. The goal of raising $19,000 was surpassed by the end of the fundraising period on December 13th, 2013.

Fictional biography

The evil Mant-Axe is a slippery sea-spy who was brought to life when weapons made by a group of evil interdimensional arms dealers were exposed to the power of the last world seed. He is a member of the Paraxxoids and rival of the heroic Ursenal. Mant-Axe has under-wing turbines that work both in air and water. He breaks down into a double-bladed battle axe and a duel barreled laser pistol.

Mant-Axe thinks he’s a lot smarter and sneakier than he really is. His engines allow him to fly with hardly a sound, and in water he can run silently. His steel-scale skin confounds most conventional detection systems. He’s got amazing technical advantages... but his tactics leave something to be desired. He loves to scare his targets before he strikes, giving them little glimpses of the doom he’ll visit upon them. As a result he is as subtle as a bazooka in an echo chamber. His rampaging ego puts him at odds with friends and foes alike.

Comics

Ursenal and Mant-Axe appeared in a BMOG mini-comic by Boltax. In this story Ursenal confronts Mant-Axe after Mant-Axe takes control of a changable fighting robot.
