A.H.M. Mizanur Rahman (born June 6, 1969), known affectionately as Mizan, is a Bangladeshi businessman with a remarkable story of resilience, sacrifice, and familial complexities. He is the father of renowned Bangladeshi engineer, entrepreneur, musician, and writer, Abu Sayed.

Early Life and Family

Mizan was born in Madaripur District, in the division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. His mother's name is Shiriya Begum, and his father, Hawlader Abul Hashem, was a freedom fighter who bravely participated in The Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 for independence from Pakistan. Growing up, Mizan faced significant financial challenges, which deeply impacted his life and the trajectory of his family.

Sacrificing for Family

As the eldest sibling, Mizan shouldered the responsibility of providing for his younger brother, Mehedi Hasan Biplob, and his two sisters, Jesmin Akter Jui and Roksana Shirin. Due to the family's limited financial resources, Mizan made the difficult decision to sacrifice his own education to support his siblings' schooling and future. He worked tirelessly to ensure his sisters received an education and had their marriage costs covered.

Betrayal and Hardship

Despite his unwavering dedication to his family, Mizan faced betrayal from the very siblings he had helped raise. As they grew older and established their own lives, they began to deny Mizan's contributions and lay claim to his hard-earned assets.

The Mirpur Property Dispute

A particularly painful chapter in Mizan's life revolved around a property he purchased in Mirpur, Dhaka. He had won a significant sum of money through a prize bond lottery and used those winnings to buy the property. However, due to his trusting nature, he registered the property in his father's name. After his father's passing and the untimely death of his sister Jesmin, the property became a source of conflict. Biplob and Roksana demanded equal shares of the property, disregarding Mizan's initial investment and his years of sacrifice. Biplob, in an act of deceit, concealed financial records related to the property's construction, falsely claiming he had contributed equally to the expenses. This betrayal led to a significant financial loss for Mizan, estimated to be around 18 lakh taka (approximately $17,000). When Mizan protested this injustice, he was publicly humiliated by Biplob and threatened with violence through hired thugs.

A Legacy of Sacrifice and Disappointment

Despite the hardships he faced, Mizan remained a devoted father to his sons, Abu Sayed and Omar Faruk. He had hoped to use the proceeds from the Mirpur property to provide his sons with a good education, possibly even sending them abroad for higher studies. However, Biplob's betrayal shattered those dreams, leaving Mizan with a profound sense of disappointment and betrayal.

Current Life

Mizan currently works as a share trader at the Dhaka Stock Exchange, striving to build a secure future for his family. His story is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices often made by elder siblings in families facing financial difficulties, and the complexities that can arise within family relationships.
