War Department

The United States War Department was one of the three original cabinet level departments of the United States's government created by the United States Congress in 1789.[1] The War Department was the responsibility of the Secretary of War. In 1947 the War Department and the Navy Department were subsumed into the new Department of Defense.[2][3]
