A War hammer is, as it's name implies, a hammer that is used for combat purposes rather than Construction/Demolition or Forging.
History
Several fictional series feature characters who employ war hammers as weapons, including:
- Several versions of the Transformers hero Ultra Magnus, beginning with the version from Transformers: Animated.
- LEGO's Bionicle franchise has featured several characters who wield war hammers, including Artakha and an alternate version of Makuta Teridax in the original story line, and the characters of Ekimu, Makuta, and Onua in the Reboot series.
- In Peter Jackson's third film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel The Hobbit, entitled The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the character of Dain Ironfoot wields a hammer as his weapon, rather than an axe as wielded by his literary counterpart.
