M.G. CHANDRAKANTH
Professor MG Chandrakanth (born Jan 30, 1955) is an Indian Economist, Author, Educationist. A fellow of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics and winner of Dr RC Agrawal award for outstanding contributions in Agricultural Economics. He pursued doctoral studies in Agricultural Economics from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and post doctoral studies in institutional economics of groundwater irrigation as a Ciriacy Wantrup fellow in the University of California, Berkeley. He published the book on ‘Water Resource Economics’ by Springer in 2015. He specializes in agricultural and resource economics, water resource economics, Production Economics, valuation of externalities and role of sacred groves in natural resource conservation. He served as Professor and Head of the Dept of Agricultural Economics and Dean, College of Agriculture, at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He retired as Director, Institute for Social and Economic Change in 2020 and continued his research focus on water resource economics and issues concerning agricultural lands and markets. He was DAAD visiting professor and Erasmus Mundus visiting scholar.[1]
Education
M. G. Chandrakanth attended the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru where he graduated in Agriculture, pursued Masters and PhD in Agricultural Economics. He moved to the University of California, Berkeley for his Post Doctoral studies.[2]
Career
M. G. Chandrakanth has served as Professor, Dean and Heat at the College of Agriculture, Bengaluru. He also served as Director at Institute for Social and Economic Change. [3]
