Louise Zhang
Louise "Fan" Zhang (born on August 27, 1995, in Shanghai) is a Chinese filmmaker based in New York. She has directed, written, and produced several short films. She has also been cinematographer for many short films, including Rubber Gun Club, for which she won "Nestor Almendros Award for Female Cinematography" at the 2021 First Run Film Festival.
Early life and education
Zhang was born on August 27, 1995, in Shanghai, China. She came to the United States at the age of 15. She graduated in BS Computer Science from the Carnegie Mellon University in 2018 and continued to pursue her passion for film at the New York University Grad Film program and got her an MFA degree.
Career
Zhang started her professional career as an assistant camera in 2017. Later, she has worked on several short films as a director, producer, and writer.
Her films combine an eastern sensibility with western storytelling, evoking universal emotions through specific narratives.
