Joe Fishel
Joseph Victor Fishel also known as Joe Fishel is an American actor,[1] producer, director, and screenwriter,[2] known for the films The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Potential Inertia (2014), Concussion (2015), and Occurrence at Mills Creek (2020).[2][3][4][5][6]
Early Life and Education
Fishel was born to David and Eileen Fishel in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was named after his paternal grandfather (Joseph Victor Fishel), a PFC in the US Army, who was killed on the island of Luzon in the Philippines during World War II on July 25, 1945.[2]
Fishel is a graduate of Butler Area Senior High School in Butler, Pennsylvania. He earned an undergraduate degree from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and two graduate degrees from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.[2][7]
Fishel's experience with filmmaking began in an eighth-grade elective course as part of a group project to develop a presentation on BMX racing. In high school, Fishel completed photography, graphic arts, multimedia design, and film analysis courses. During his years at Juniata College, he was active in All Class Night, a live theatrical presentation written, produced, and performed by student body members. Furthermore, he attained an FCC license while involved in the Juniata College radio station.[7]
Career
Experiencing several commercials, music videos, industrial presentations, television shows, and movie productions, Fishel has labored both in front of and behind the camera as an actor, producer, miscellaneous production crewman, and stuntman. He has appeared in uncredited roles in several Hollywood productions such as The Dark Knight Rises,[8] The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Promised Land, and Jack Reacher. He has also been credited with movies, including Matt Croyle’s production Potential Inertia[9] and The Other Side. Fishel had a SAG-AFTRA contract for Concussion,[7] but his scene was cut from the theatrical version and appeared in the extras/deleted scenes.
Fishel has appeared in the popular YouTube video series Non-Arabs React to Arabic Food by filmmaker Mutaiam bin Abdullah. He also worked as a producer in several films, including Tuesday Night Fever (2009)[10] and Mills Creek (2019). He has been a screener and judge for several film festivals.
Fishel received several awards stemming from his production Occurrence, including the short film Mills Creek, the feature film Occurrence at Mills Creek, and music videos The Way I Used to Know and Hurt from award-winning artist Mia Zanotti. He won the Best Supporting Actor award for Occurrence at Mills Creek at five film festivals, including the American Golden Picture Film Festival, Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, DRUK International Film Festival, L'Age d'Or International Arthouse Film Festival, and Mindfield Film Festival-Albuquerque.[11]
