Career in journalism

In 2010 Stewart was one of three journalists at the Vancouver Observer who wrote about "Lost Canadians" individuals caught in a legal loophole, who had lived most of their lives thinking they were Canadian citizens.[1] Some children of war brides, women who came to Canada after marrying Canadian servicemen during World War Two were stateless. Stewart accepted an award from the Canadian Online Publishing Association on behalf of her team.

In March and April of 2012 Stewart, now with the Vancouver Courier tried out for a place on the BC Angels of the Lingerie Football League.[3][4] Stewart described her feelings about the requirement in the ad for the tryout that applicants wear "cute gym wear" -- which her relatively tight track suit apparently complied with. In her coverage of the team Stewart has made clear that she regards her colleagues as genuine athletes who should be recognized for the efforts they make to be fit, and hone their football skills.[5]

On August 12, 2012, Stewart was one of the first neighbors on the scene of the 6am gangland killing of Juel Ross Stanton, a former member of the Hell Angels Motorcycle Club.[6]
