Thuraya phone

The Thuraya phone is a satellite phone marketed in the middle east and south asia.

It is a hybrid phone. When the user tries to place a call, if the phone is within range of a cell phone network, it places the call through the cell phone network. When the user tries to place a call, and the phone is out of range of a cell network, the phone uses the Thuraya satellite.

Some more expensive satellite phones are built to work anywhere in the world, while the Thuraya phones only work when they are in the footprint of the single geosynchronous satellite leased to work with them. That satellite's footprint covers roughly from the horn of africa, to India, including the middle east, Iran, and stan republics.

The phone is marketed with a case that includes solar charging panels.
