The Rock People and Mizuchi the Mysterious Dragon is the sixth episode of the animated television series Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos, which was broadcast on August 14th, 1986 in Japan.[1]

Plot

Mizuchi's cave in Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos episode 6, "The Rock People and Mizuchi the Mysterious Dragon"

The Wolf Sword has led the group to the tropical jungle Babria. Reina collapses in the humidity and intense magnetic fields of the jungle. In a nearby cave Grujious and Diondora continue their own search for the Hyribead. They discover the imprisoned Mizuchi - an old enemy of Kirai Stol and free him. Mizuchi vows to avenge himself by killing Rom. Meanwhile Rom, Jet and Drill set out to find help for Reina and notice a strange seal on one of the rocks in the jungle. Rom comes across the Gandora and attacks, but is beaten back by Mizuchi and then buried by a rock fall. Jet sets off after the Gandora while Drill attempts to free Rom. Elsewhere, Reina and Jim are suddenly surrounded by Rock People.

Drill frees Rom and they are joined by Jet, who was unable to track Mizuchi. They return to Jim and find that Reina is missing. The trio follow tracks left to the Rock People's village and sneak inside. Rom finds Reina and prepares to attack before she explains that the Rock People returned her to health after her collapse. Looking around the village, they discover the Wolf Crest among carvings on one of the buildings. However the Gandora attack before they can investigate. Rom summons Blade Dragon but Mizuchi arrives to fight him. In the battle Blade Dragon falls on the Wolf Crest of the Rock People's temple, which turns into the Shield of Justice that helps him battle Mizuchi. After upgrading to Vikung-Fu he easily kills Mizuchi and Diondora retreats. The village is destroyed in the battle however, taking the Crest with it, and the Rock People leave to find a new home.

Notes

  • Firsts: This is the first appearance of Mizuchi, Battlerock and the Rock People, who return in later episodes.
  • Director Yoshitaka Fujimoto would go on to do storyboards for 8 episodes of the Transformers: Robots in Disguise series in 2000.
  • Mechanoids are vulnerable to humidity and intense magnetic fields, although those things do not seem to bother the Mizuchi or the Rock People.
  • The Rock People are all based on the appearance of the Battlerock toy (actually closer to the Rock Lords Boulder version of that toy). Their unnamed commander is voiced by the same actor who voiced Battlerock in episode 20, so it's safe to say he is Battlerock. All Rock People speak a language that Rom Stol and friends do not understand. At least 9 Rock People are seen alive in the final scenes of the episode.
  • When the Rock People are spying on Reina, we see still images with clicking noises, as if they are taking photographs.
  • It has been since Battleflex appearing in episode 2 that we have seen new toy-based characters.
  • Mizuchi came to the planet Cronos years ago and was imprisoned by Kirai Stol, who used the Wolf Sword.
  • Rom's lecture this episode is about the dawn.
  • The Shield of Justice turns from stone into a working shield, just as Blade Dragon and Vikung-Fu turned from statues to real suits for Rom in the first episode.
  • Death toll: Jet and Drill each kill a Devil Soldier. Several Rock People seem to be destroyed by the Gandora. Vikung-Fu kills Mizuchi with his God Hand Smash attack.
  • The French dub of this episode was called "Un Patrimoine Perdu", which means "A Lost Heritage".
  • Some English subtitles of this episode were called "The Strange Dragon Bijifa" or "Stone People and the Strange Battle".
