A text editor is a computer program used while writing the instructions for new computer programs and web pages. The action of writing computer softwares and webpages is called coding and the instructions written in software and webpages are called codes.

The file made by coding is called a source file. The text editor can be used to create, edit and duplicate source files. Notepad is an example of a text editor. However, there are some other examples of text editors including those that were designed for specific languages. For example; Nuts Writer is a special text editor for creating software with the Nuts (programming language).
