Early Life

Shaikh Faridul Islam (also known as Lion Farid)was born in the Village of Baradia, PS. Rampal, District: Bagerhat. His father Alhaj SK Abdur Rahman is a retired businessman & mother Alhaj Shakhina Begum is house wife. He married Halima Nusrat D/O Alhaj SK Nazrul Islam, retired govt.college teacher & Alhaj Selina Afroj, retired school teacher. [1]

Education

He completed his primary education from Baradia Govt Primary School, S.S.C. (1984) from Baintala Kashipur High school & H.S.C. (1986) from Abul Kalam College, Rampal, Bagerhat. He have obtained B.A. Honors & M.A. (1990 exam held in 1992) from Dhaka University. He also completed his PHD on Environmental Science (Tile: A study on the climate change and livelihood in Sundarbans Bangladesh), American World University, CA USA. [2]

Personal Life

Shakih Farid married Halima Nusrat in 1999 and had two kids with her: son Shaikh Muhaiminul Islam Talha and daughter Fatima Islam Toha. [3]

Professional Life

Shaikh Farid embarked on his professional journey in 1992 with Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), Singapore's national shipping line. Within a remarkable four years, he earned the esteemed NOL "CEO AWARD 1996" for his consistent, outstanding performance.

Farid took on a crucial role in the development of NOL Singapore in 1998, undertaking large training programmes for staff globally, including the United Kingdom, France, the United States, and Canada. He also provided crucial skills to business development managers in these regions.

Farid actively pursued continual growth during his NOL tenure, participating in high-quality training programmes such as Professional Selling Skills, Relationship Marketing, Coaching, and Team Development, all conducted by international trainers. His commitment and leadership left an indelible mark on the shipping business.


In 1999, Shaikh Farid founded Swift Freight International LTD. and embarked on a transformative journey within the Freight forwarding industry. With just two employees, his mission was clear: to redefine the sector. Today, Swift Freight International Ltd. stands proudly as one of Bangladesh's foremost and highly regarded Freight forwarders.

Within the industry, Swift Freight International Ltd. has emerged as a true trailblazer. It enjoys widespread acclaim as Bangladesh's premier importer and exporter, extending its influence far beyond national borders. Shaikh Farid's Philanthropic and Civic Engagement

Shaikh Farid's involvement in civic and environmental causes is marked by dedication and impact. In 2007, he became a member of the Lions Club of Dhaka Mega City, District 315A2. His exemplary contributions earned him the title of "Best Lion" for multiple years, spanning from 2008 to 2015. Presently, he serves as the President of the Dhaka Mega City Lions Club.

One of his significant initiatives is the organization of annual free eye camps in Rampal and Mongla, Bagerhat, since 2009. These camps have provided vital eye care to approximately 100,000 patients, with over 10,500 individuals receiving eye surgeries, including procedures for cataracts, DCR, and DCT, at the Lions Eye Hospital in Dhaka. Shaikh Farid's commitment extends to regular support for underprivileged individuals in need of medical treatment.

Furthermore, he has been a generous benefactor to educational and religious institutions, contributing to schools, colleges, mosques, madrasas, and temples in Rampal and Mongla, Bagerhat. His charitable efforts also extend to providing essential resources, including rickshaw vans, boats, fishing nets, and swing machines to uplift the community.

Shaikh Farid's dedication to education is evident through his provision of scholarships to economically disadvantaged students since 2005. He goes the extra mile by supplying school bags, uniforms, covering exam fees, and providing books to support these students in their pursuit of education.

Beyond his civic engagement, Shaikh Farid assumes leadership roles in critical environmental initiatives. He is the chairman of "Save the Sundarban Foundation," an organization dedicated to preserving the unique ecosystem of the Sundarbans. He also serves as the Senior Vice Chairman at the "Centre for Human Rights Movement."

Recently, Shaikh Farid has been at the forefront of efforts to safeguard the Sundarbans from potential harm posed by a coal power plant project adjacent to the region, initiated as a Bangladesh-India joint venture. To protect this vital ecosystem, he has organized seminars, human chains, and citizen rallies, collaborating with organizations such as TIB, BAPA, BELA, and PABA.

Shaikh Farid's commitment to service, education, and environmental conservation is further evidenced by his role as the founder of several other organizations, exemplifying his dedication to making a positive impact on society and the environment.
