The SS James Laughlin was a lake freighter.[1]

The vessel's namesake, James Laughlin, a brother-in-law of President Howard Taft, committed suicide in 1910.[1]

She was launched in 1906 by Great Lakes Engineering Works, in Ecorse, Michigan.[2]

She was scrapped in 1979.[2]
