X-Transbots

Ollie is an homage to Generation 1 Wheelie. He turns from a robot to automobile.

Other third-party Transformer homages to Wheelie include iGear's Busta and Yom-G's Wheelie Survivalist.

Development

Ollie was designed by 539. The first images of Ollie were released on the internet in December 2013.

Ollie is mentioned in the biography for Krank as well as being advertised on the bottom of his box as coming out in early 2014.

In May 2016, X-Transbots revealed photos of a possible new version of Ollie. Refinements appear to have been made to improve articulation and reduce fragility. Most notably, he is now able to roll in vehicle mode.

Reception

The original Ollie was poorly received overall. Although the figure was praised for its high degree of animation accuracy, many buyers criticised the fragile feel of the plastic and felt the transformation was unnecessarily complicated for such a small toy. He is also unable to roll in vehicle mode, due to the wheels not having enough space to turn.

The Retro Robot Radio podcast for October 26th, 2013 mentioned Ollie in the news.[1]

Fictional biography

Ollie's function is described as a "survivalist". His packaging description describes him as "young and a snot" but skilled in the use of his gun and slingshot. He has few friends, but his one closest friend is a "slow talking king". He is physically very weak.

In reference to the Generation 1 character, his biography is written completely in rhyme.

Toys

  • X-Transbots MM-IV Ollie (2014)
Accessories: gun, slingshot
Ollie transforms from robot to futuristic car. His weapon is small laser gun, which can also be clipped on his hood in vehicle mode. He also includes a slingshot weapon.
This toy was remolded into Sonic.
  • X-Transbots MM-IV Ollie (2016)
Accessories: gun, slingshot
This version of Ollie was heavily retooled to address criticism by collectors. He has been cast in a stronger, much higher quality plastic. He is now capable of rolling in vehicle mode and he has stabilizers on the backs of his feet for additional stability.
Ollie v2 has added articulation in his crotch panels, which previously were unmoving and blocked all forward movement of the thighs. His thighs are now diecast instead of plastic to improve rigidity. Unfortunately, due to poorly applied paint or other unknown factors, flaking was a common problem. The figure was delayed and another pair of thighs were supplied.
Ollie also included a new face sculpt and an additional, clear chest piece that could be swapped out for the stock one if the user desired.
