The Niederfinow liftlock, completed in October 2022, is the tallest liftlock in Germany.[1] It also is capable of transporting larger vessels than any other liftlock in Germany. Liftlocks are referred to as "Schiffshebewerk", in German, and as "boatlifts" or "shiplifts", in some parts of the English speaking world

It replaces a liftlock built in 1934, which was the world's largest and tallest, but all other liftlocks were dwarfed by the Three Gorges Shiplift, on the Yangtze River.[1] The Nieferfinow liftlock can raise or lower vessels 55 metres, while the Chinese liftlock can raise them more than twice the distance, of approximately 113 metres.

The 1934 liftlock is scheduled to continue to operate until 2025, when it will finally be retired, but continue to serve as a museum.[1]

The liftlock is located on a canal system linking Germany and Poland.[1]
