The afro-pop artist is known for his alter ego, Afro Cyborg, with the character brought to life through the visuals for his song 2020 Mamacita.[1] In 2022, Mr. Dutch collaborated with British-Nigerian artist Kida Kudz for the joint project World Citizens, showcasing London and Lagos’ parallel Afrofusion scenes.[2]

Career

Mr. Dutch is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and musician.[3] He is the CEO of Dutch Empire and record label Dutch Dreams Records.[4]

He is known for his character, Afro Cyborg, which features in several music videos and projects.[5] Mr. Dutch collaborated with Nigerian director, Aje for his song Mamacita which saw the Afro Cyborg character brought to life.[6]

Since 2017, Mr. Dutch has released several songs and collaborations, including  E No Finish featuring Grammy-winning Burna Boy,[7] Fire Down with Reekado, and Just Like That featuring Lava Lava. His Afro-Pop sound retains a distinctly Nigerian identity, drawing inspiration from fuji music, highlife, American funk and jazz whilst fusing it with inspirations from his stay in South Africa.[8] Mr. Dutch represents not only Nigeria but Africa as a whole.[9]

Philanthropy

Giving back to the community[10] he has fed thousands of Nigerians through his charity, Mr Dutch Foundation,[11] to cushion the hardship of the Coronavirus pandemic occasioned by the lockdown imposed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Mr. Dutch achieved this through his “COVID-19 Food Relief Programme” to several federation states, namely, Lagos State, Imo State, Edo State and the Federal Capital Territory. This program fed thousands in both Island and Mainland areas of Lagos, Owerri, Benin and Abuja.[12]

We have been able to feed more than 50 thousand people, although we were not really counting numbers of people, in some locations, we reached out to 2 thousand people. Some places were about 1 thousand while some locations were five hundred people. We went to different areas and States, distributing food. Sometimes, we collaborate with restaurants to make the food and distribute it to people every day. We get the restaurants, send money to them, they prepare the food and package it while the volunteers take it and distribute it to people.” Mr. Dutch said in a chat with Nation Online.[13]
