The Heralds of Unicron are a group of villainous Transformers so called because of their allegiance to Unicron.

History

Generation 1

Animated series

Though not referred to as such in The Transformers: The Movie, the earliest known Heralds of Unicron are Galvatron, Cyclonus, Scourge, and the minions of Galvatron's two closest commanders. Having been reformatted from defeated Decepticons by Unicron, they were dispatched to destroy the Matrix of Leadership and prevent it from being used against Unicron. However, from the start Galvatron served Unicron only out of necessity and because Unicron inflicted great pain upon him, and he continuously sought means of betraying him.

In Beast Wars Second Unicron was served by a trio of Transformers known as the Blendtrons, who revived him by infusing massive amounts of Angolmois into the lifeless body of Predacon Galvatron.

BotCon/3H Enterprises

Shokaract, a Predacon who served as the host of Unicron's essence in Transformers: Reaching the Omega Point, employed Heralds as his minions as well. The two most notable ones were Antagony and Cataclysm, with Cataclysm's brother the Cub also attempting to become a Herald before joining the fight against Shokaract as part of the mighty fusion Windrazor. In Transformers: Universe Unicron commanded an army of Transformers who served him either willingly or due to being corrupted by his darkness, who were known as the Minions of Unicron as well as Heralds. This group included such notables as Tarantulas, alternate versions of Obsidian and Tankor, and Razorclaw.

IDW Publishing

In Beast Wars: The Ascending, Shokaract-once again a vessel for Unicron though in this case a sacrificial one-was served by various Heralds, including the Blendtrons, Antagony, and various Angolmois-transformed Predacons from Beast Wars Second.

Unicron Trilogy

Animated series

Transformers: Armada and Transformers: Energon both featured beings who served Unicron in various fashions. Sideways was revealed to serve the Chaos Bringer towards the conclusion of the former series, with the Mini-Cons also being identified as his creations, though they eventually rebelled against him. The Armada version of Nemesis Prime may also have been a minion of Unicron, as the image of Sideways was seen briefly upon its destruction. In Energon Alpha Q's Terrorcons sought to revive Unicron, though at the behest of Alpha Q or Megatron rather than Unicron himself. Unicron's evil also possessed Megatron/Galvatron and Shockblast at various times, though whether this made them minions is unclear, particularly since Unicron later destroyed Shockblast after the Decepticon warrior started to regain control of himself.

Dreamwave Productions

In the Transformers comic from Dreamwave Productions, Unicron dispatched several Transformers-including versions of his Generation 1 Heralds-to a version of the Unicron Trilogy universe. However, they were defeated by that universe's Decepticons, due in part to one of them forming the Star Saber.

Fun Publications

Continuing from the cancelled Universe line, Transformers: Timelines featured additional Heralds of Unicron: Dark Scorponok and Ramjet. It also featured another Nemesis Prime similar in appearance to Big Convoy whose tech spec identified him as the Champion of Unicron, a title not previously seen that may be indicative of higher status among Unicron's minions. The Planet X Transformers Sideways and Soundwave from Transformers: Cybertron were also revealed to have been Unicron's minions.

Shattered Glass

In the Shattered Glass reality, the noble Unicron reformatted several villainous Autobots into his noble Knights of Unicron under the leadership of Nova Prime. The other members were X-Brawn, Checkpoint, and Checkpoint's Autotroopers.
