Kalarab is an Islamic nasheed ensemble from Bangladesh consisting of thirteen members.[1] Presently, the group has amassed over 4 million subscribers and 760 million total views on the YouTube channel of their main associated record label, Holy Tune.

History

Kalarab was founded in 2004 through the efforts of Ainuddin al-Azad.[2]

Charitable work and activism

In 2016, the group also worked with Bright Solution Multimedia on a jingle for Smart Active Gold Mehendi's TV advertisement. The jingle was written by Imtiaz Masrur, tune by Muhammad Badruzzaman, produced by Armanul Haq, voiceover by Yeasin Hayder and sung by Muhammad Badruzzaman, Omar Abdullah and Shafin Ahmad.[3]

In February 2018, the group initiated a three-month educational workshop for children and teenagers providing training in reciting the Quran, singing nasheeds, presentation, performing and acting.[2]

In March 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kalarab distributed thousands of masks throughout the streets of Dhaka in areas such as Fakirapul, Kakrail, Motijhil, Kamlapur, Rajarbag, Bijaynagar, Paltan, Baitul Mukarram and Press Club Square amongst others.[4]

Performances

Kalarab perform at a number of Islamic events across Bangladesh.[1] On 2 February 2018, the group hosted and performed at the International Qirat & Nasheed Mahfil in Dhaka with qaris and singers from countries such as Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Iran, Algeria, India and Brunei.[5][6]
