Comics

Marvel Comics

The vehicle has been featured in multiple Marvel Comics, as a mainstay of the Cobra army.

HISS Tanks are used when Cobra attacks the US Treasury. When they fail, the Cobra High Command use them for escape vehicles. Cobra Commander decides that the escape is a perfect chance to have Baroness' gunner, Major Bludd, kill his gunner, Destro. The Baroness intervenes, crashing her tank. She is caught up in the explosion but survives. Bludd escapes. Hawk catches up with the other tank and is promptly shot off by Cobra Commander. He also survives his injuries. In the issues, the tanks are much larger in scale, offering space for many more characters then the toy could hold.[5]

HISS Tanks and FANG helicopters are used in an aborted attack on McGuire Air Force Base, after the Dreadnoks spotted a Dragonfly landing there.[6]

They are used in defense of Cobra Island in issue 41.[7]

HISS Tanks are the mainstays of Serpentor's army in the first Cobra Island civil war. He uses one as a personal battlefield transport, with the Baroness tied to the canopy as a hostage.[8]

Devil's Due

Transformers Ironhide as a Cobra H.I.S.S. tank

The 'Hiss' vehicle appears in the Devil's Due G.I.Joe series. It is first shown as part of the evidence that Cobra had returned after a long time of inactivity.[9] The HISS 2, a modified version, is one of the many vehicles Destro brings with when he rescues the Baroness from Russian and Yakuza mobsters.[10] In the Transformers crossover series Ironhide and Ratchet assumed the forms of Hiss tanks.Template:Issue
