Transformers: Generation 1
Growl is a member of the Decepticon Micromaster Military Patrol. He is a dim and simplistic bully. Like all the members of the military patrol he seeks to replace Bombshock as leader, but he does so just because the other members do, and he doesn't want to seem inferior to them. He is not very creative and is highly impressionable.
In Japan the toy was released with the same name, but as an Autobot.
Growl has a one-page biography in issue #3 of Dreamwave's Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye comic. This biography says he started as a bully on the streets fo Cybertron, and when he got into trouble he had the choice of jail or military service, so he joined the military and never looked back.
Growl first appeared in the Micromasters comic series by Dreamwave Productions. Growl joined the Decepticon cause and came to work for Skystalker.
Growl was among the Micromasters who appeared in Spotlight: Hardhead who attacked Nightbeat and Hardhead on the planet Gorlam Prime.
