The Gimli Harbour Authority administers a new facility.

The Gimli Harbour Authority is a body of prominent local appointees chosen to administer water transport in Gimli, Manitoba, by the Canadian Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans.[1] Vessels using the harbour include recreational craft, commercial fishers, and Canadian Coast Guard patrol vessels.

The fishing season lasts from May to July and September and October, but the main schools of fish migrate north within the first two weeks of the fishing season.[2]

In 2013 invasive zebra mussels were first observed in Lake Winnipeg.[2] In a controversial prophylactic measure large amounts of Potash was dropped in the lake near Gimli, and three other nearby ports on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg.
