Ernesto Verdugo (born September 16, 1968) is a Dutch-Mexican award-winning speaker, business consultant, change catalyst, thought leader, behavioral expert, digital marketing authority, entrepreneur, TV host, and business coach.

He is best known as an award-winning speaker, TEDx Speaker, one of the most traveled people in the world, strategic business consultant and has pioneered the concepts of gaining visibility, delivering ideas that help companies and individuals with immediate sales.[1]

His presentations are thought-provoking, engaging, perceptive, insightful, and to the point, which usually leave attendees with a strong desire to take action. Verdugo is a serial entrepreneur who has founded several companies including Speak Internationally, Entertaining Educational Technologies, Speak in Dubai, and several others. Verdugo also serves as Vice President of marketing and events at the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce.[2][3] Verdugo has created his name as an active trend hunter who can spot new possibilities for people and organizations to help them with the business traction they are looking for.

Verdugo is a global public speaker known for engaging speaking abilities and quickly connecting with the audience to think from a different perspective. He has delivered over 22,000 hours of onstage and virtual events. He has an experience of over 30 years of training employees across various organizations and delivering presentations across the globe on change management, digital marketing, and disruptive innovation.[4] He has been featured in several leading media publications and magazines such as CNBC, Univision, The National, Yemen Times, Telemundo, The Daily News, and the Huffington Post.[5]

As of December 2022, he has been a keynote speaker in 65 countries and has trained people from over 135 nationalities. Verdugo has command over English, Spanish and Dutch, and also had conversational skills in German, Italian, and French, helping him connect with global audiences. He has been responsible for bringing 350 speakers to Dubai, 150 speakers to the United States of America, 110 speakers to Bahrain, 40 speakers to Spain, and 60 speakers to the Netherlands.

Early life and education

Verdugo was born and raised in Mexico, the son of Ernesto Verdugo Orozco and Delta Hernandez Ponce. He attended the Irish Institute and at age 16 he traveled by train every country in Europe.[6] Verdugo landed his first job as an Intern with the German Multi-National SIEMENS, based in Offenbach, Germany. In 1986, at age 18, he returned to Mexico City to study Communication and Media Studies at the Universidad Ibero Americana.[7] In 1990, Verdugo returned to Europe and enrolled in the IHTTI School of Hotel Management in Luzern, Switzerland, to study Hotel Management. He later obtained a degree on Airline Management from the International Tourism & Hospitality Management School in Bournemouth, England.[8]

Verdugo holds numerous certificates and licenses, including Tony Robbins Trainer Academy, Tony Robbins Master University, and Jack Canfield Companies certified speaker training.[9]

Career

1991 marked the beginning of Verdugo's professional career as a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines corporate sales representative where he was in charge of a budget of $1.3 million. He spent eleven years in the firm working through various positions, such as corporate sales executive, marketing and sales trainer, and consultant for area management training. In 1994, he was relocated from KLM Mexico to the Training Department of the airline, becoming the first expatriate employee at the KLM Head Office in Amsterdam. Ernesto was responsible for teaching the airline's Management, Sales, and Marketing Staff around the world, after which he was promoted to his first Area Management position as a Trainer for KLM Middle East and South Asia based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he trained over 3,000 employees from Bangladesh to Cyprus.[10]

Verdugo was then responsible for training the sales, marketing, and management staff from Africa, Europe, Asia, and finally Latin America. In 1999 Verdugo was commissioned to train 10,000 travel agents in 28 countries around the world preparing them for the technological changes of online sales.

Verdugo established Entertaining Educational Technologies in 2002. He continued educating organizations of all sizes across the globe through the company until 2008.[11]

In 2008, he partnered with Right Selection, the leading events organizer in the Middle East, to pioneer digital marketing training in the region. During that time, he, along with the top 40 Digital Marketing and E-Commerce specialists from the United States and Europe, was instrumental in introducing e-commerce to that region.[12]

In 2016, he became the Co-Founder of Speak Internationally, a firm designed to assist speakers, leaders, and experts in developing a solid personal brand that will increase their speaking opportunities throughout the globe. He has conducted these unique branding events in the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Oman, Bahrain, India, Egypt, and Thailand.

In 2019, he became the Marketing Manager of the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce in Houston, Texas and is currently the Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Marketing and Events.[13]

Verdugo is best known as a catalyst for change due to his many international speaking engagements at organizations, events, conferences, and enterprises. He is renowned for his unique speaking style which is captivating, entertaining, direct and thought-provoking. Verdugo is known to have shared the stage alongside famous speakers such as Dr. Ivan Misner, Tony Buzan, Russell Brunson, John Carlton, Brian Tracy, Vishen Lakhiani, Mike Filsaime, Andrew Lock, Chris Okazaki and Mabel Cadena, at numerous national and international events.[14]

Verdugo has written 2 Books: Amazing Websites & Even More Amazing Websites which achieved over 5 million FREE downloads, plus co-written several books, including: Why Marketing Middle East, Los Mega Links, CLICKEANDO, Las Top Webs, El Mapa Del Tesoro De Internet, and Herramientas, De Impacto.[15]

Verdugo has also been the co-host of The "Toilet Paper Diaries", a WebTV show, and podcast whose mission was to assist speakers, experts, and entrepreneurs thrive in the new "virtual environment" we inhabited after the global epidemic by sharing positive news, success tactics, and business updates.[16]

Other Works

Ernesto Verdugo was the co-developer together with Frank Mulcahy of the Grow & Protect App. A Learning Management system specially designed to Grow and Protect small businesses affiliated to chambers of commerce.

As of Today, over 100 Chambers of Commerce in the United States, Canada, Malta and the United Kingdom offer this application for free to all their members. Literally, thousands of small businesses have access to a complete library of video lesson plans to help them maximize its potential by reducing risk, lower operating costs, boost proficiency and profits- without any capital expenditure.[17]

Awards and recognitions

Verdugo has been honored with several awards for his work and performance by several organizations, chambers of commerce, and royalty.

  • During his service at KLM Middle East and South Asia, Verdugo was awarded with the Top Quality Performance Award (1996) and credited for Outstanding Performance after training over 3000 employees.
  • Credited with the OXCEL Leadership Achievement Award in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2008).
  • The KLM SIANergy Awards, Singapore (2009) for training over 300 Management, Marketing and Sales Training in Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia.
  • Social Media Masters Award by the Hands of His Highness Sheikh Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain (2012 & 2014)
  • US- Mexico Chamber of Commerce award (2018)
  • Awarded the TEDx Coatzacoalcos 2020 BEST SPEAKER award at the TEDx event (2020)
  • Received the Social Media Award from the eGovernment Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Personal life

Verdugo currently resides in The Woodlands, Texas, with his wife Gerjola (Joan) Voortman, and together they have two kids, Vincent Verdugo and Nina Verdugo.[18] Apart from his professional career, he is a little league baseball coach, a master juggler, and a certified private pilot.[19]
