The Diabetes Duo: Captain Glucose and Meter Boy are two diabetic superheroes whose mission, according to their website [1] is to educate, enlighten, and entertain everyone who has diabetes. They are two well meaning superheroes who both have diabetes and want to do their best to spread awareness about the disease which unfortunately is affecting more and more people everyday. They report to the Commissioner of Diabetes who sends them out to help people become more aware of what diabetes is, to see if they are at risk, and to help people with diabetes stay in good control. Their arch enemies are The Blood Sugar Maniac, Apathy Man, The Pancretin, and a number of other evil doers who get in the way of people having good diabetes control.

The Diabetes Duo was created by two professional television actors, Bill Kirchenbauer and Brad Slaight. Bill has Type 2 diabetes and Brad has Type 1. Bill plays Captain Glucose and Brad plays Meter Boy. They came up with the idea after they realized that there is a lot of technical information about diabetes, but very little entertaining and informative material. They make a big point about what they do as comedic, but not the disease itself. They are serious about their message and the humor comes from the two of them. They are currently working on an animation project with the characters, as well as a full length DVD that will reflect their mission of being both informative and entertaining. In 2007 they produced a very clever PSA (public service announcement) that featured a woman with diabetes that Captain Glucose and Meter Boy rush to help, only to find out that she may have diabetes but the only reason she was short of breath and sweating is because she just got through jogging. She tells them that exercise keeps her in good control. The PSA was not your usual "people with diabetes are victims" kind of thing. It showed that they are in charge of their disease and empowering themselves to take control. Captain Glucose and Meter Boy have a message that is reflected in their motto: "BE YOUR OWN PERSONAL DIABETES SUPERHERO!"

Captain Glucose and Meter Boy: The Diabetes Duo have a wide presence on the Internet. They are on the Celebrity Advisory Board for Diabetic Life of Michigan e-magazine and have been interviewed and featured by such notable diabetes sites as: Diabetes Hands Foundation; Six Until Me; David Mendosa's "Living With Diabetes"; and Scott's Web Log (Scott Strumello)

Since 2010 the Characters of Captain Glucose and Meter Boy have become all animated and have produced several animated PSA's that focus on positive diabetes messages. They have also added a female character to their family. Her name is Dee Dee and is also known as "D-Girl" a Type 1 diabetic who wears an insulin pump and helps them in their mission to fight apathy and encourage people with diabetes to be proactive.
