On 6 January 2008, flight MJ 401 from Colombo to Dubai was forced to issue a Mayday call and perform an emergency landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai after one engine developed a severe oil leak and stopped working. Passengers were informed that the incident was due to the plane leaving Colombo without a vital component in one engine. Nobody was injured.


Accident flight

The aircraft involved in the accident was ageing Bulgarian built Airbus A320 leased from Balkan Holidays Air registered LZ-BHB. 2 hours after takeoff from colombo the pilots and passengers felt the aircraft was shaking and heard usual thuds on the wings. Later the smell of something burning filled the cabin. After landing fire crew and paramedics at Mumbai surrounded the aircraft. Nearly 6 hours after landing the passengers were sent to a nearby hotel
