Crowbar is a OpenStack installer developed by Dell built on top of Chef (software).[1] The idea behind Crowbar is to deploy a full-featured OpenStack system, along with nova, swift and glance.

It is written in Ruby (programming language) and uses PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) to deploy new machine nodes. It also include a Ruby on Rails application to deploy/manage virtual machines in the cloud.

In 2011, Dell announced this would have been open sourced.[2] At the moment, this is still closed source.
