Winthrop Gardiner Jr.

Winthrop Gardiner Jr. was a member of the family which received a royal grant of historic Gardiners Island in 1639.[1] In 1936, he inherited the Island. Within a year he sold it to Sarah Diodati Gardiner, who The New York Times described as a "distant cousin".
Gardiner worked as an executive at the Industrial Tape Company.[2]
Gardiner married six times, and was divorcing Nancy Wakeman when he died of cancer.[1] He was married to his fourth wife, Sonia Henie, an Olympic ice skating champion from 1949 through 1956.[2]
